Biography

Philippe Marchand was born in France in 1966.
His father, Jacques Marchand, was an artist painter and decorator and
laureate of the Art School of Rennes.
Philippe spent his childhood in an artistic atmosphere watching his father at work or helping him to prepare his
exhibitions. At 17 years old, Philippe felt the necessity to go and
discover his life and his destiny.
The mysteries of life became for him an amazing world to explore. He
went to Paris in 1983 and started to feel that something else exists
beyond what we see, Philippe studied for four years philosophies,
religions and some mysteries of the life, helped by an old man. Quickly,
Philippe felt the need to express his spirit life and art feeling. For
that he rediscovered the pencils and the colors, which became a vehicle
for his interior life.
Contrary to is father, Philippe preferred to work and learn alone the
techniques of art painting, meeting and working with two artists, Philo
and Jorge Otermin Aguirre (www.oterminaguirre.com). In 1989, his father
died, and it was time for Philippe to make his first fly and his first
exhibition in Paris.
After that, he decided to quit Paris and the urban life to the isolated
mountains where he would live for 7 years and continue to develop his
art. There, with others artists, he created their own gallery. During
that time he travelled within Europe to Amsterdam, Salzburg, and Firenze,
and in these cities of art Philippe received some influence. For him, this
experience, lost in the mountain, face to face with nature, and in his
old farm, became a school of life and initiation to the human way. After
this experience, he felt a rupture with the occidental way of life and
in 1997 another life started for Philippe. He decided to leave from
France for a long, long travel.
He travelled for two years in South-east Asia. In Medan, Bali, Manila,
Rangoon and Bangkok he met and observed these other cultures which
became a new world to explore.
After these amazing travels, he decided to live in Chiang Mai in the
north of Thailand and try other experiences. In his old teak house
surrounded by a tropical garden, where he would stay for two years, he
would develop a new trend inspired by the influence of "this loving and
spiritual culture". His dry pigments painting was appreciated, having made five exhibitions in Bangkok.
After this successful Asian experience, Philippe decided to go back to
France to prepare a new studio where he could develop and show his art,
in relation with his future foreigner experience, and his spirit life,
always to serve the human spirit quest.
"The mysteries of the life and the spirit answers, are drawing this world where I try to
find, to create again, this link between them, that we have forgotten and lost."
With his mastery of the dry pigment technique and all the different
experiences and influences, now, Philippe has become a real master.
Always in his search of the life mysteries that Philippe will bring to us
soon, some others answers, in colors .... Eric Barbier
